Trade and investment

 

Trade with Ireland in 2009 (not including data on trade conducted by businesses from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova) amounted to 3,37 mln. USD. Against 2008, trade decreased by 38,62% as a result of a drop in both imports and exports with this country. At the same time, the 1st Quarter of 2010 shows a positive trend in trade with Ireland with a total of 0,811 mln. USD, which against the same period of 2009 increased by 131,05 % due to growing imports from Ireland.

 

Irish investments in the Republic of Moldova

 

According to the National Statistics Bureau, as at October 2009, there were 19 joint-stock companies with Irish social capital operating in Moldova, totaling 34,966 million Moldovan lei.

 

Technical assistance

 

Irish assistance to the Republic of Moldova, offered through the Development Cooperation Division of the DFA (Irish Aid), is estimated at 400,000 EURO. Projects of social and humanitarian assistance aim especially at alleviating poverty, inequality and social exclusion. The Irish Government offers assistance to the Irish non-governmental organization Outreach Moldova that supports two orphanages: in Chişinău (109 boys and girls) and in Hînceşti (for 330 girls and young women with disabilities). In 2006, Irish assistance has been increased to 500 000 Euro. At present, technical assistance is granted to Moldova through regional projects.
